I have spent twenty years running significant private houses, and the story reads like a map of good addresses: Athlone House in North London; Villa Lou Pinea in Antibes; Villa Il Tesoro in Tuscany; properties in Malibu, California. Different countries, different climates — the same quiet discipline. Each house taught me its own lessons, and I have kept every one.
Some of my engagements began with drawings: projects built from scratch, taken from an empty site through construction and handover, and then into the years of considered care that follow. Others were as personal as moving a family across the world — a household established, staff engaged, life resumed within the week. Twenty years of that leaves you with a craftsman's respect for detail, and an unhurried certainty about what a house needs.
Somewhere along the way I took an MBA in finance and sustainability at the University of Cumbria — useful, I find, because a beautiful house should also be a well-run one, and the next generation deserves to inherit both.
Max Finance & Accounts
I look after the numbers, and I hold a simple belief: a household deserves the same financial rigour as a company, delivered with rather more tact. Budgets set and kept, every invoice reconciled, contracts re-tendered when they have grown too comfortable, savings found and shown plainly on the page. If a figure cannot be explained in one sentence, I consider the work unfinished.
Anna Operations & Day-to-Day Management
I keep the days in order: housekeeping to standard, contractors arriving when they promised, the small things noticed while they are still small. I plan the season before it arrives and confirm everything twice — quietly. My favourite compliment is silence: a week in which nothing needed mentioning at all.
